If you’ve thought about switching your monthly or quarterly paper statements to a paperless or electronic version, check out these reasons to do it.
Identity Theft Prevention
Switching to paperless statements could help prevent identity theft resulting from stolen mail. Last year identity theft affected 9.9 million Americans, according to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Some of these cases occurred because an individual’s mail containing sensitive information was stolen from their mailbox. Every statement or bill you get in the mail is an opportunity for a thief to steal your account information.
But the danger doesn’t stop at the mailbox… it also leads to the trash can. Dumpster-diving is a common technique for a thief to steal your identity. Every piece of sensitive mail that isn’t put through a cross-cut shredder is one more opportunity to have your identity stolen.

Less Mail and Paper in Your Home
All those paper statements tend to pile up. The elimination of paper statements means there is less paper and clutter in your home.
For later access, you can download your online statements and save them to your computer or external drive. America’s CU offers 24 months of online statements.
And…
Because less paper is being produced in the first place, paperless statements are good for the environment.
Consider making the switch to paperless statements, and contact America’s CU for more information on this and other financial services.
